Six plants that genuinely tolerate a dark flat

Low light is a range, not a category. A north-facing room with a large window is a different world from a windowless hallway, and only a handful of plants handle the second one.
The ZZ plant is the honest champion. It stores water in underground rhizomes, which means it tolerates both darkness and neglect, and the only reliable way to kill one is overwatering.
Snake plants come next, and they have the unusual property of releasing oxygen at night, which makes them a defensible bedroom choice rather than a decorative one.
Peace lilies flower even in modest light and, usefully, droop dramatically when thirsty before recovering within an hour of watering. They tell you what they need.
